Big eye thresher shark (Alopias superciliosus) A beautiful thresher shark came very close with her cute eyes taking a curious look at the camera. In the background, there is another one just passing by. This photo is taken at 32 meters depth with ambient light only under to the local conservation rule. When hunting schooling fish, thresher sharks are known to "slap" the water, herding and stunning prey. The elongated tail is used to swat smaller fish, stunning them before feeding. All three thresher shark species have been listed as vulnerable to extinction by the World Conservation Union since 2007 (IUCN). 長尾鯊是一種相當獨特罕見的鯊魚，他們特別長的尾鰭佔體長的三分之一。他們會利用長尾巴把魚群圍住，接著用長尾巴將魚群擊昏，再進行捕食。 菲律賓宿霧北方的馬拉帕斯瓜島是全世界少數能看到長尾鯊的潛水勝地，當地人民靠著長尾鯊這個大明星，大力發展潛水產業，設立海洋保育區。目前當地有80%的經濟收入來源是靠鯊魚觀光。長尾鯊已被世界自然保護聯盟列為瀕危的物種。
